Kunafa rolls with cream filling
Ingredients:
- 400g kunafa dough
- 200g liquid butter
- Syrup
- Chopped pistachios for decoration
Ingredients for the cream filling:
- 380g milk
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 small teaspoon vanilla extract
Preparation:
Cream filling:
- Pour the milk into a saucepan and heat it over a moderate flame.
- Add sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract and stir until the mixture begins to boil.
- Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
Preparation of kunafa:
- Grease the bottom of a large baking tray and place the kunafa strands at the bottom.
- Brush the dough strands with liquid butter.
- Take a portion of the dough strands, about 20 cm long and 5 cm wide, and place a tablespoon of the cream at one end.
- Roll the strands into a roll. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
- Grease the bottom of a baking sheet and place all the kunafa rolls next to each other, pressed tightly together in the tray.
- Grill them in the oven at 180°C until they turn golden brown.
- Add cold syrup immediately on the rolls when taken out of the oven and let them cool.
- Decorate with chopped pistachios on top for a beautiful appearance.
Note: You can also use other types of sweeteners as desired.
